Sedation Dentistry at Dental Care of Corona

However, we also have patients with dental anxiety that prevents them from having a positive experience. Their fear is so intense that they risk their oral health because they can’t bring themselves to schedule an appointment. For those patients, we offer sedation dentistry at our Corona, CA dental office. With dental sedation, our patients can get past their anxiety to relax and get the important care they need.

We offer short-term relaxation with calming nitrous oxide (laughing gas) with effects that disappear quickly so that you can go on with your day after treatment.

Our periodontist Dr. Brock Lorenz is certified to offer oral sedation and IV sedation right here at Dental Care of Corona.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental sedation in Corona, CA is an excellent way to relax your nerves. It is used to treat dental phobia but is also a perfect choice for patients undergoing invasive or multiple treatments.

First, your sedation dentist in Corona, CA talks to you about the choices, and then we take a health history to learn whether it is a safe and viable option for you.

Our sedation dentistry options include:

  • Nitrous oxide—Nitrous oxide, commonly called laughing gas, is administered through a nose mask. It has no lingering side effects, and the relaxed and detached feeling wears off immediately following treatment.
  • Oral sedation—Oral sedation is a pill given before treatment. With this pill, you may only recall bits and pieces of your dental visit. If you choose oral sedation, you’ll need transportation from a friend or family member because driving is prohibited.
  • IV Sedation—IV sedation is the most powerful option, so you’ll likely not remember your procedure. With IV sedation—like oral sedation—you’ll need a ride home from your treatment.

Your dentist provides all aftercare instructions following sedation dentistry. Be sure to follow these directions for the best results.

Are You Considering Sedation Dentistry in Corona, CA?

Talk to a member of our compassionate team today about dental sedation! Helping you relax and feel comfortable in our dental office is a top priority.

Our team at Dental Care of Corona does not recommend driving after oral or IV sedation dentistry. We offer three types of sedation dentistry at our Corona dental office:

  • Nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) – This short-term conscious sedation is calming, and patients inhale it through a mask during the appointment. As soon as the patient removes the mask, the effects dissipate within a few minutes. This is the only form of sedation patients can have and still drive after.
  • Oral sedation – Our periodontist Dr. Brock Lorenz is certified to offer oral sedation at our Corona dental office. Oral sedation is a mild conscious sedative pill your doctor prescribes before treatment. We ask patients to take the medication about an hour before their appointment. Because the effects linger for several hours after having oral sedation, we recommend having a designated driver drop you off at our dental office and take you home after your visit.
  • IV sedation – Dr. Lorenz is also certified to offer IV sedation at Dental Care of Corona. IV sedation immediately enters the bloodstream, and the effects can last for hours. If you have IV sedation, you must have a designated driver to bring you to drop you off for your appointment and take you home.

Please get in touch with us today for more information or to schedule your visit.

When administered by a trained professional, sedation dentistry is very safe for children, teenagers, and adults. At Dental Care of Corona, we offer conscious sedation methods, such as nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”), oral sedation, and IV sedation.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for Me?

Each of the above sedation methods has unique effects, and not every patient is a good candidate for each sedation method. Everyone responds differently to sedation, but your dentist can determine which sedation method is best for you by:

  • Assessing your specific situation, treatment needs, and comfort levels
  • Providing a thorough examination
  • Reviewing your medical and oral health histories
  • Reviewing any medications you may be taking

Generally, laughing gas is considered the least invasive and safest for most patients, including children. Oral sedation is essentially an anti-anxiety medication and is safe for many patients. IV sedation, also known as sleep sedation, makes patients semi-conscious and is safe for many patients.

Sedation Options Tailored to Your Needs

Patient ready for their dental appointment with sedation dentistry in Corona, CA.We offer three types of sedation, and you and your dentist can discuss which is suitable for your needs:

Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas

Nearly everyone can benefit from the relaxing, comforting effects of nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is the mildest sedation and is safe to use for children. It’s popular with our patients because the effects don’t linger, and they can drive themselves to and from their appointment.

We administer nitrous through a small nasal mask, and you just inhale and enjoy the calming, relaxing effects. As soon as we stop the flow of nitrous, your head will start to clear, and in a few minutes, you’ll be ready to go on with your busy day.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation involves taking a sedative before your appointment that will help you relax. By taking it about an hour beforehand, you’ll arrive at our office feeling very calm and ready for your appointment. Since the sedative stays in your system for several hours, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your visit.

IV Sedation

If you have deep anxiety and nitrous and oral sedation won’t work for you, we recommend IV sedation. This is because IV (intravenous) sedation puts you in a semi-conscious state; this means that we can communicate with you, but you won’t be aware of what’s happening around you or remember much about the details afterward.

Since our periodontist, Dr. Brock Lorenz, is certified to administer IV sedation, you can have your procedure done here at our Corona, CA dental office.

Don’t Fear Another Dental Appointment!
